Lady Fatemah Charitable Trust (LFT)

Learn how LFT’s GiveIT program helped to close the digital divide in the UK whilst also helping to reduce 23789.48 kg of carbon emissions and 185.34 kg of e-waste.

During lockdowns, children and young people across the UK were asked to shift their learning activities online. However, not all of them have the same access to appropriate technology devices. This digital exclusion problem was recognised by The Lady Fatemah Trust (LFT) early on in the pandemic and therefore they set up the GiveIT program. The initial aim was to collect used laptops, repair and supply them to children that did not have access to laptops. The demand from schools was overwhelming but thankfully this was matched by the generosity of their donors.

"LFT's GiveIT program is focussed on improving the life chances of school children between 7-17 years of age. However, there is a forgotten generation of 16-24 year olds who are equally deserving of a helping hand. City Gateway's program of work with IBM, improving literacy and numeracy, appealed to us. LFT therefore stepped in to help 550 such individuals by providing laptops to aid their learning and work experience."
